Long-Term Car Rentals during Summer or Winter: A Guide

While we’re unable to offer long-term car rentals at discounted rates, there are ways to secure great prices if you follow these tips.

Availability and Pricing

  • Winter Months: Lower-priced cars are more readily available during winter due to an excess supply. It’s possible to find deals as low as €50 per month.
  • Summer Months: Though prices tend to be higher in summer, it’s still possible to find competitive monthly rates.

How to Get the Best Deal

  1. Use a Car Broker System:
The link below connects you with a car broker system that lets car suppliers list their surplus vehicles for rental.
    • Booking Timing: Search for a car about a week before you need it. Booking too early may not yield the best prices.
    • Pickup Location: Always choose Malaga Airport for collection.
    • Rental Period: Limit your rental to one month at a time for the best rates.
  1. Insurance and Damage Deposits:
    • Insurance Options:
Your rental won’t include full excess insurance by default. You have two options:
      • Pay for the supplier’s insurance (usually capped at 14 days).
      • Use your credit/charge card to cover the excess. In case of an accident, any unused amount of the excess will be refunded.
    • Cheaper Insurance Alternative:
Consider purchasing standalone car rental excess insurance, which costs around €55 per year. Search online for “car rental excess insurance” to find providers.

Alternatively, a Revolut Metal Plan costs €155 per year and includes excess car hire insurance, plus other benefits like earning air miles.

A Note on Summer Rentals

During summer, some companies at Malaga Airport offer competitive rates. However, be cautious about their business model:

  • Large Damage Deposits: Many companies require a substantial deposit (e.g., €1,000) that they hold for up to two weeks after you return the car.
  • Potential Risks: These deposits may be used for short-term investments by the rental company. While this is clever from their perspective, it’s not regulated, and you risk delays—or worse—in getting your deposit back if something goes wrong.

Whether you choose this approach is up to you, but being informed will help you make the best decision. One test before you rent a car is make sure there is a phone number offered and a contact and test it so you can talk to somebody. You might be left in the cold. Paying with a credit card will cover you  for this as you can cancel fraudulent payments with the bank and get your money back this way.

We hope these tips help you navigate long-term car rentals and secure a great deal!
